| Marketing trends Whatever it takes Back to basics…cutting prices…deep discounting…broadening ranges…partnering |
|
22 Jun 08
Whenever the economy slackens, America's shopkeepers slash prices and pray for consumers to pull out the plastic. Once again, retailers are doing their part, although perhaps with more zeal than usual.
Discounts are deeper than they were a year ago. Nordstrom has slashed prices, starting at 40%, vs. 33% last year. Sales have begun earlier. Saks Fifth Avenue opened its first big sale in April, rather than May. And loyalty programs are getting sweeter. Neiman Marcus just handed out $200 gift cards to those who spent $500 or more.

Maxi Maxims Summer is coming…time to celebrate the return of funky ankle grazers
6 Jun 08 Congratulations to the The Times… last week there was a beautiful new design introduced for the female section Times 2.
Alice Olins wrote the following to support the Maximum Impact cover image: "Less than a century ago, women wore long dresses every day. It might have been the done thing, but imagine all those dirty hems! It certainly puts a new spin on the phrase "sweeping the floor". Today billowing fabric can still help us through the summer. Just make sure that you're clear about the maxi rules.

| What Women Want The new terms of engagement By Marilyn Moore
|
|
1 June 08
Lifestage marketing Like millions of women across the country, one of the first things Rachel Sawyer does each morning is to log onto her computer. That moment marks the dawn of 12-plus Web-rich hours where she is exposed to marketing messages, ads and other inducements to buy everything from shoes to financial services. "Everything I do is online," says Sawyer, 45, a librarian who lives near Baltimore with her teenage son. "I shop online, I read the news online, I bank online. I probably would never need to leave the house."

| Lessons for dealers from a future supplier Starbuzz is happening Co-creativity culture with customers
28 Apr 08
One customer wants Starbucks to make ice cubes out of coffee so when they melt they won't dilute cold drinks; 7,660 fellow customers agree.
Another wants the chain to install shelves in restrooms—where else can you put your drink when you've drunk too much? Although some customers are repelled by that suggestion, Starbucks thinks it's a "sleeper idea" worth considering. More than 10,000 Starbucks fans wish for something to plug the hole in lids to prevent sloshing. Starbucks listened and just introduced reusable "splash sticks" to do that.

| Pink Predictions...
8 for '08
Welcome to the Age of Responsible Marketing 9 Jan 08
1. The Age of Responsible Marketing…econsumerism…natural/ethical |
|
|
i With the environment finally on the agenda of most powers that be, and millions of consumers now actively trying to greenify their lives, status from leading an eco-responsible lifestyle is both more readily available, and increasing in value. A substantial subset of consumers is already bestowing recognition and praise on Prius drivers while scorning SUV owners, and this will only accelerate as design-minded and branding-savvy eco-firms push to the forefront in 2008. Make it green, make it chic, make it effortless, make it visible, and don't hesitate to point out your competitor's polluting alternatives.

| 8 Ad trends for 2008 |
|
By Claire Beale, Independent/Campaign Magazine
04 Jan 08 Ahhh, can you smell it? Breathe deep. That sweet optimism and rancid doubt carried on the dawn of the New Year. For adland's workers have more reason than many to meet the coming year with mixed emotions.
The business is changing, structures are crumbling, traditions are being blown apart. Our world in 12 months' time will be dramatically altered. The agent of destruction – and rebirth – is technology, of course, and its pace is swift...

| 7 successes in '07… Who and what made it BIG last year? |
|
03 Jan 08 It's that time of year again…time to reflect on the positives of 2007. Although we can't list them all…here are some we feel deserve to be listed in '7 successes of '07'…
1) Grazia Magazine Britain's No.1 weekly glossy…and we think we know why…its simply the best. The top stories, celeb news & gossip, very edgy with the latest trends, must have buys in the fashion world and so much more…its our absolute favourite and head n' shoulders above the copycat rivals.
2) Anya Hindmarch- the 'I'm not a plastic bag' phenomenon This must-have 'it' bag was the most talked about bag of the spring. The eco-friendly holdall caused such a craze that thousands of eager shoppers queued up as early as 2am outside their local Sainsbury's to get one! |
|
3) The Kate Moss collection at Topshop This fantastic collection was launched at London's Oxford Street store on 1st May and has been a winner collection ever since. Our particular faves are the sharp military jackets and the 'poppy' dress.
4) Agyness Deyn 'The next Kate Moss'…turns out the predictions were right…Aggy picked up Model of the Year at this years British Fashion Awards…one to note for 2008.
5) Celeb Fragrances Of course some are so much better than others…but you can't deny that its been a bit of a craze this year. Our notable favourites are Christina Aguilera's and Kate Moss'.
|
|
6) Facebook Facebook has been a phenomenal success again this year with millions of subscribers and an ever-increasing popularity over My Space…we think this set to continue in 2008.
7) Web Marketing and online shopping As predicted in our '7 for 2007' article posted back last January-Web Marketing and online shopping is becoming more and more favourable against shopping on the high street. Retailers are recognising the need for webstores and an increasing demand for online facilities and advertising through the web.
|
We hope you enjoyed our successes for '07 and will soon be posting our '8 greats for 2008'…keep reading!
